Will Smith Posts Heartwarming Tribute to Robin Williams on Instagram
Will Smith took to Instagram to honor the predecessor of his new role as Genie in the live-action remake of Disney’s Aladdin.
Creating a remake of a classic film is hard enough, but it’s even harder when fans have such a strong emotional attachment to the characters. Fans of the original Disney’s Aladdin were definitely skeptical of the casting of the new live-action film, especially for the role of Genie. It’s one of Robin Williams’ most famous roles before his tragic passing in 2014. Will Smith wanted to reassure fans that he wants to do his best to live up to the role.
“I know Genies don’t have Feet… But you left some Big Shoes to fill,” Smith said in an Instagram post honoring Robin Williams, Aladdin’s genie in the animated 1992 film. “R.I.P., Robin! And Thank You, @helloluigi Love the artwork!” he added, crediting the artist who created the image, Luigi Lucarelli.
You can see Will Smith as the new Genie in theaters on May 24th.
