Dreamville’s First Ever ‘Dreamville Fest’ Was Historic
The first ever Dreamville Festival was one to remember.
Dreamville Records CEO J.Cole brought a festival to his home state of North Carolina Saturday, April 6th and made sure to show fans of Dreamville the best time. 40,000 people flocked to Raleigh’s Dorothea Dix Park for the festivities and thousands tuned in to the live streaming of the event on Tidal. At the entrance to the park, festival attendees were greeted by sand sculptors welcoming everyone to the festival with a huge Dreamville Festival sand sculpture. There were tons of fun things to do including face painting, art vendors and tons of different food vendors from BBQ to taco trucks.
The Dreamville Festival performers shut down both of the “Rise” and “Shine” stages. Performers included Ari Lennox, Teyana Taylor, 6lack, Big Sean, Bas, and SZA.
Teyana Taylor and Big Sean performed heartfelt tributes to the late rapper Nipsey Hussle who was killed a week before the festival. The last performer of the night was Dreamville’s head honcho, J.Cole. He performed a number of his biggest hits from his very first mixtape to his latest album release K.O.D. He brought out 21 Savage who also performed at the festival earlier in the night, to perform his song “A Lot” which features J.Cole. During his set, J.Cole also performed a tribute to Nipsey Hussle by performing his hit song “Love Yours”. He spoke about how “giving people their flowers while they can still smell them” is important and how Dreamville Festival was his way of giving flowers to those that deserve them.
Later in his performance, J.cole brought out special guest Meek Mill to really get the crowd going crazy and end the festival with a bang.
The Dreamville Festival was initially organized to benefit the Dreamville Foundation and the Dorothea Dix Park Conservancy but after April 6th Dreamville Festival became so much more to the people that attended. It’s now a memory that most will never forget and hopefully will become new memories for years to come.
