The Newest ‘Black-Ish’ Spinoff, ‘Mixed-Ish’ Is Coming to a TV near You

(ABC/Craig Sjodin)

Your fave primetime family is back. The next Black-ish spinoff will be a prequel series focusing on the show’s matriarch, Rainbow Johnson.

In addition to renewing ‘Black-ish’ for a 6th season, ABC has announced another spinoff called ‘Mixed-ish’. The show will focus on Rainbow Johnson’s (Tracee Ellis Ross) childhood in the ’80s as a biracial family. The original comedy ‘Black-ish’ focuses on the Johnsons, a modern affluent black family raising their kids in predominantly white suburbia. Many of you have probably seen its first spinoff, ‘Grown-ish’, which is centered on the family’s oldest daughter, Zoey (Yara Shahidi) and her adventures in college.

It’s been revealed that ‘Mixed-ish’ will be about Bow’s interracial parents, Paul (Anders Holm) and Alicia (Tika Sumpter) deciding to move from a hippie commune to the suburbs for a better life for their family. As her parents struggle with the challenges of their new life, Bow (Arica Himmel) and her siblings navigate their new school where they’re perceived as neither black nor white.

There will be a flashback episode of ‘Black-ish’ airing May 7th called “Becoming Bow”, which will serve as a segue into the series ‘Mixed-ish’.
