Released alongside the second episode of the eighth season of Game of Thrones, “Jenny of Oldstones” is a haunting ode to the beloved HBO series. “Jenny of Oldstones” is actually the only new original track thus far for season eight of GoT. It came out with the second episode and adds a beautifully unsettling ambiance to the show. Florence and the Machine was the perfect choice to record this gorgeous piece. The haunting tone of Florence Welch’s voice is truly unique and adds an element to the words that a lot of other groups can’t capture.

The frontwoman of Florence and the Machine, Florence Welch, was approached by producers of the show to record the song based on lyrics that had already been established. She expressed that although the history of the song was quite rich within the lore of the show, she wanted to keep it simple and not overdo it in production. This was definitely the right choice to make.

This performance was done at Arizona’s FORM Arcosanti festival. Before the performance, Florence said, “I’d like to dedicate this song to Arya Stark, who saved us all.” This is a very touching sentiment to one of the ultimate fan-favorite characters. It also set the perfect tone.  “Jenny of Oldstones” has truly increased the excitement for the rest of season eight. Watch Florence and the Machine perform the chilling song below.
