The Georgia Heartbeat Bill – What Does It Mean?
Many have already heard of the new Heartbeat Bill in Georgia, proposed by Governor Brian Kemp, but what does this new bill mean for women and their rights?
Roe vs Wade was the first case to seriously consider women’s rights to abortions and other reproductive rights. This new “heartbeat bill” will turn back the Supreme Court ruling in the state of Georgia.
The Heartbeat Bill states that abortions after six weeks of pregnancy are illegal, to put it simply. However, six weeks pregnant typically only means two weeks late on your period.
Many women have shared their opinions on this matter via Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook posts. They all commonly state one thing – that this bill would be taking away a constitutional right given to women to control their own bodies.
Other states have followed Georgia’s bill idea, such as Alabama, Florida, Mississippi and more. We can only wait to see what the future holds for women’s rights.
