Ruby Rose on How Her Gender & Sexuality Labels Have Changed
Ruby Rose opened up to Entertainment Weekly about gender-neutrality and gender-fluidity, and why she had to relearn how certain labels have changed over the years. In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, she discussed how she has self-identified as a lesbian over the years but was confronted with a response from her fans about how gender-fluidity technically didn’t mix with the label of “lesbian.” But instead of refusing to listen, she stopped and tried to understand what was being said.
“‘I’m a woman that identifies as a woman. I’m not trans. But if being gender-fluid means that I can’t identify as a woman at any point, then I guess I can’t be that.’ Maybe I need to make up another term, one that doesn’t step on any toes.
