New Nike Ad Features LGBTQ+ Athletes
Nike just released a powerful new short film featuring inspiring LGBTQ+ athletes. The film called “NOBODY Wins Alone” is a part of Nike’s “BeTrue” campaign. The film is narrated by triathlete Chris Mosier and features footage of him as well as basketball players Sue Bird, Brittney Griner, and runner Caster Semenya. The film’s message is not just aimed at inspiring LGBTQ+ people, but all people who wish to compete. Women have historically had a difficult time competing or even partaking in certain sports due to gender segregation and different rules for them.
“None of us can truly win until the rules are the same for everyone,” Mosier says in the film. This is true for everyone on the planet, regardless of sex or gender. Everyone should be treated as equal and they must be treated so in order to truly have the same opportunities as everyone else.
The #BeTrue campaign was started in 2012 and has provided Pride logos for Nike gear while also donating money to organizations that work to promote LGBTQ+ rights and equal opportunities. BeTrue has donated over three and a half million dollars to LGBTQ+ organizations so far and is supporting over twenty related organizations this year, including the National Gay Basketball Association and You Can Play.
