Gina Rodriguez Speaks out About Her Mental Health
Gina Rodriguez has recently opened up about her struggle with anxiety and depression with NBC’s Kate Snow at the Kennedy Forum. This is not the first time that she has spoken about her mental health. Rodriquez made an Instagram post back in 2017 about her struggle with anxiety.
According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety affects 40 million people above the age of 18 in the United States. It is a mental disorder that no one should have to struggle with alone. Today there are more and more celebrities talking about their mental health which is important. Speaking out about how you are feeling makes it easier for others to as well.
During the filming of the last season of Jane the Virgin, Rodriguez was having panic attacks that stopped her from filming. She is opening up to hopefully help the young women and girls that look up to her. While talking to Snow at the Kennedy Forum Rodriguiz said that it has to be apart of the conversation. She said, “I can not just tell them to go out and make their dreams come true and then to ignore everything else.” It is okay to struggle and it is okay to talk about how you are feeling.
When talking about anxiety Rodriguez called it the “silent little dragon in your head.” Just because it is in your head does not mean that you can not talk about it. Struggling with anxiety and depression is hard but surrounding yourself with people who will listen to you and help you is very important. Talking about your feelings with loved ones that you can trust helps.
