Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to Release on July 11th
The digital soundtrack comes out at 8 a.m. PDT on July 11th and you can pre-order the physical album now, which releases on July 19th, the same day The Lion King opens in U.S. theaters. Tickets go on sale now, June 24th for The Lion King created by Jon Favreau.
“Just hearing that music strikes you deeply,” says the new creator Favreau. “Even if you don’t know the film or stage show, there is a spiritual strength in it. But if you know the film, and if you grew up with this music—now it can suddenly and immediately evoke the story itself, as well as all the connected memories and emotions that you have from your own past experience with ‘The Lion King,’ or from the time of your life that you were in, or your childhood, or the life events it’s connected to.”
The soundtrack includes a new song by Elton John and Tim Rice called Never Too Late, with the score composed by Hans Zimmer.
Disney’s The Lion King, which Jon Favreau directed, sets in the African savanna where the birth of a future king, Simba, takes place. Simba adores and looks up to his father, King Mufasa, and dedicates himself to his future of becoming royalty. Scar, Simba’s uncle and Mufasa’s brother, formerly had the next claim to the throne, so the arrival of Simba makes him devise a plot to gain his former place back. The family battles within for control of Pride Rock, and betrayal, tragedy, and drama ensues, which results in Simba’s exile. New friends help Simba figure out the process of growing up and taking back his deserved throne.
The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba,
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala,
James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.
Freshly imagined, The Lion King takes over theaters on July 19, 2019. Make sure to listen to the soundtrack when it is released July 11th.
