Tennis Champ Cori ‘CoCo’ Gauff Makes History

For any athlete, hard work, dedication, and discipline are some of the most important keys to becoming a champion.

Cori ‘CoCo’ Gauff definitely proved this to be true during the 2019 Wimbledon Championships. She made history by becoming the youngest woman at only 15 years old to qualify for the Wimbledon Championships.

The championships began Monday, July 1st, at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club in London, England. It was during the first match that CoCo overcame a very tough challenge: defeating her idol, Tennis Champion Venus Williams.

The Atlanta native has beat many odds and has made a number of records including: becoming the youngest ever finalist in the girls’ singles event at the US Open, winning the Junior French Open in 2018 and becoming the second-youngest person to do so, becoming the youngest female to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament main draw, and the youngest player overall to qualify for the main draw at Wimbledon.
