The Collective ‘Jungle’ Creates Genre-Melding Music
The modern soul, funk music collective ‘Jungle’ puts unique spins on genres and incorporates unexpected sounds into their songs.
Tom McFarland and Josh Lloyd-Watson formed the London-based music group in 2013 after knowing each other since childhood growing up in Shepards Bush, London. The two wanted to put an emphasis on the music through artwork and videos while keeping their own identities in the background. They soon expanded to a collective in 2014 by working with multiple artists. To perform live shows they began using a seven-piece band to give a fully engaging experience instead of just playing back digital copies of their music.
The band certainly has a unique sound mixing many qualities together such as “tropical percussion, wildlife noises, falsetto yelps, psychedelic washes, and badoinking bass”. They have a funk sound mixed with modern soul elements. Their debut album Jungle came out in 2014 and their song ‘Busy Earnin’ has shown up in shows and films. In 2018 they returned with a new album called For Ever.

My mother delivered me in Wiesbaden, Germany. I have an African-American father and German mother. I lived there until I reached around age 8 and we moved to Saint Louis, MO. I now attend Truman State University in Kirksville, MO aiming to complete an English major with a Film Studies minor since I enjoy thinking of creative concepts and analyzing film.
