Missy Elliott Will Inspire You in Her August Interview with ‘Marie Claire’
In a recent interview for the August issue of Marie Claire, the legend Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott opened up about her childhood, having faith, and getting ready to release new music. The interview laid out some interesting facts about Missy Elliott. In case you missed it, she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame last month, becoming the first female rapper to do so and the third rapper to ever join the ranks in history. She received an Honorary Doctorate’s Degree in Music from the highly esteemed Berklee College of Music in May. The four-time Grammy Award recipient is one of the top-selling rappers of all time and has been involved in the careers of pretty much every other big hip hop and R&B star in the last few decades (she wrote songs for Mary J. Blige, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Faith Evans, and Beyoncé, for example).
But what was particularly striking about the interview was how down to earth Missy Elliott is—and her steadfast conviction in having faith in herself. Elliott talks about washing her dogs, watching Netflix, and believing in God with all her heart. Apparently, she can remember all of her classmates’ names from about forty years ago, and how they didn’t believe her when she said she was going to be a superstar.
The entire interview is a beautifully inspiring reminder to keep believing in yourself no matter what—and to keep an ear out for when Missy Elliott’s new music drops.
