‘Big Little Lies’ Star Shailene Woodley Announces Greenpeace Sargasso Sea Expedition on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’
Emmy-award nominee and environmental activist Shailene Woodley appeared on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ last night to discuss the importance of saving our oceans.
Shailene not only revealed a shocking spoiler for ‘Big Little Lies’ on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’, but she also announced that she will be joining an expedition to the Sargasso Sea later this month to promote the importance of protecting our world’s oceans. Jimmy asked Woodley what will she be doing for the rest of the summer and she stated, “I’m going to the ocean! I’m doing something with Greenpeace in a couple of weeks, which I feel very grateful for. We’re going to the Sargasso Sea and we’re going to study and research microplastics and micropollution.” On this trip, Shailene will be accompanying Greenpeace, which is an independent organization that uses peaceful protest and creative communication to uncover global environmental issues while advocating for a better future. Shailene will serve as a new Greenpeace Oceans Ambassador while traveling aboard the Greenpeace ship, the ‘Esperanza’.

Shailene explained that tragic incidents are happening in the oceans today and that it is important to save the oceans because this is where 50% of our oxygen comes from. The journey to the Sargasso Sea is a part of Greenpeace’s Pole to Pole expedition that highlights threats that unique ecosystems constantly face in international waters. Greenpeace hopes to put a new Global Ocean Treaty into place that will pave the way for ocean sanctuaries covering a third of the world’s oceans and protect 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030. Shailene will work alongside scientists and researchers studying the impact of plastics and microplastics on marine life while fighting for this environmental initiative.
