Artist Thundercat Delivers Funk Soul
Thundercat has a modern funky style that takes you back in time accompanied by jarring beats.
Stephen Lee Bruner aka Thundercat sings/song-writes and produces, based in Los Angeles. He grew up in a family of musicians and began learning to play the bass early on. At 15 he joined a boy band called No Curfew which had a hit in Germany and later joined a punk band as a bass player. He released his first album The Golden Age of Apocalypse in 2011 which had a noticeable 70s influence. Thundercat would collaborate with Flying Lotus in the studio for the next two years and released his second album Apocolypse in 2013. He had a major part in crafting and contributing to Kendrick Lamar’s album To Pimp a Butterfly and received a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Performance for his feature on Kendrick Lamar’s These Walls from To Pimp a Butterfly.
Thundercat released an EP in 2015 called The Beyond/Where the Giants Roam where he renewed elements of old soul, funk, and jazz music. His most popular track from the EP, Them Changes, has a drum sample from the 1977 track Footsteps in the Dark by the Isley Brothers. In 2017 he put out a studio album called Drunk which featured veteran R&B and soft rock singers Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins.

My mother delivered me in Wiesbaden, Germany. I have an African-American father and German mother. I lived there until I reached around age 8 and we moved to Saint Louis, MO. I now attend Truman State University in Kirksville, MO aiming to complete an English major with a Film Studies minor since I enjoy thinking of creative concepts and analyzing film.
