Thank You for Standing up for 9/11 Victims, Jon Stewart
Jon Stewart has been dubbed an official hero as of earlier this week, for his dedication to standing up for the heroic first responders of 9/11. After a heartfelt, deeply moving speech that he delivered to Congress in June, the Senate finally passed the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund reauthorization bill. The bill is designed to help 9/11 first responder victims receive health care for the next seven decades.
“This has been the honor of my life to work with the men and women behind me…these families deserve better and…I’m hopeful that today begins the process of being able to heal without the burden of having to advocate,” Stewart said at a press conference.
The joy and relief of the first responders standing beside and behind him was tangible.
Previously known for his hilariously funny news skits on Comedy Central’s Daily Show, Stewart has proven himself to be an incredible activist for humanity. His June speech to Congress was one of the boldest some of us perhaps have ever seen by a U.S. citizen addressing lawmakers. Watch below.
After his speech in June, two Senators still tried to block the bill. But Stewart had some words for them, too, and the bill ended up getting passed anyways.
