Pride in ‘Paradise’: Demi Burnett Comes Out As Bisexual

(ABC/Craig Sjodin)

Demi Burnett, also known by her Instagram username, @demi_not_lovato, shook Bachelor Nation from night one of Colton’s season of The Bachelor (Season 23).

This Texas queen has unapologetically been herself from the start as she pursues her ongoing quest for Prince Charming, or shall we say, potential Princess. Although she did not find love with Colton Underwood, she traveled to Mexico to continue her journey on the hit spin-off Bachelor in Paradise.

Almost immediately, Demi appeared to be with Derek Peth. Derek appeared on Jojo Fletcher’s season of The Bachelorette (Season 12) and Season 4 of Bachelor in Paradise. Demi appeared instantly interested in Derek but unable to open up to him completely. During the second week of Paradise, Demi confesses that she had been seeing a woman prior to paradise and that she is attracted to men and women, identifying as fluid.

Demi will make ABC history by being the first member of Bachelor Nation to pursue a same-sex relationship on screen. Will this be the new norm? Will ABC become more LGBTQ inclusive? We certainly hope so.

Derek and Demi both tweeted after the episode aired sending love and support to the other. We are yet to see the fate of the “Double D’s” but what we DO know is that Demi’s girlfriend, Kristian Haggerty, will make an appearance on the season.

Bachelor Nation is dying to know if Demi will find love in Paradise.
