Zendaya: The Face of ‘Euphoria’, a New Diverse Show
Young actress, Zendaya, takes on quite the new role.
In the past, we all may have recognized Zendaya for her starring role in Disney Channel’s Shake it Up. However, today, the 22-year-old actress has filled some quite big story shoes. In her new role of Rue, a young teen, LGBTQ member, and drug addict, Zendaya’s character faces much trouble internally and externally.
The show’s cast and team have been very upfront about their goals for the story, to highlight the bitter and raw parts of addiction, youth, and sexuality.
Zendaya’s character Rue, and her screen partner Hunter Schafer’s character, Jules, enter into a tumultuous relationship, always keeping each other on their toes. As a trans-woman on and off the screen, Hunter Schafer’s persona of Jules tries to navigate her femininity, whilst simultaneously attempting to love and support her drug-addicted best friend and potential love interest. The pair not only have great chemistry on screen, but are also close friends outside of the show.
There have been plenty of negative remarks towards Euphoria since its air. Many scenes from the show can certainly be challenging to stomach for almost all viewers. However, every single actor, Zendaya included, have rallied behind their characters, scenes, and the show’s overall message. In turn, the rawness of Euphoria has since seemed to sting a little less on the tongues of viewers…or at least it has left a positive, eye-opening perspective on the cast.
Regardless of what you may have heard or not heard about Euphoria, Zendaya and her castmates portray a beautifully delicate, humanistic story of life that is a must-watch.
