The Trailer for ‘The Politician’ Just Released and It Promises an Edgy Comedy
Ryan Murphy’s new show promises to promise us everything–and we are here for it.
You may remember Ryan Murphy from the hit show Glee. Well, he is now executive producer for The Politician. The trailer introduces us to Payton, played by Ben Platt, who feels destined to be president. The show is a dark comedy set at a seemingly idyllic high school where the students fight to become student body president. The election reaches a new level of pettiness once the parents become involved.
The show’s win-at-all-cost theme is reminiscent of the 90s movie Election but edgier. The characters are very buttoned-up and preppy, but just below the surface churns unbridled ambition. The comedy seems to sit at the intersection of dirty politics and fashion, sprinkled with lapses in judgment–sounds like a winner.

The cast includes Ben Platt, Lucy Boynton, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoey Deutch, Jessica Lange, Rahne Jones, and Laura Dreyfuss. The series premieres Friday, September 27 on Netflix.
