The New York-based designer showed her Spring/Summer 2020 collection at NYFW Friday, September 6th, 2019 and wowed the crowd.

Vivienne Hu pulled all the stops for her SS20 collection. The show began with drama as the lights turned down and a whisper was heard. Then, the crowd was treated to alternating live performances from Elle Varner and Chang Sisi as the models began to walk down the runway.

The collection offered a vision of a sophisticated yet playful woman.

It boasted flowy silhouettes that were modern with a vintage feel.

The combinations of shimmering metallics and bold, colorful peony prints were an exciting and unique twist.

The collection transitioned from very bright, summer colors to more neutral tones. Each look was paired with shoes by the designer, the most intriguing being those with metallic fringe as they elevated the feminine looks with an edgier and even more unique feel.

Vivienne Hu used her collection to bring back 19th-century fashion in a new modern and chic way. Amongst our favorite looks was a Victorian-style blouse made out what seemed like (perhaps faux) leather; it was a new, fresh take on a classic blouse.

From puffy-sleeved tops with shorts to corsets with glittery fabrics, Hu created effortless looks that translate easily into today’s fashion scene while still standing out.

All of the models had slicked back hair with multiple bobby pins and luscious waves as well as simple and sultry makeup, reminiscent of the 1950s. The makeup looks were created using Vivienne Hu’s upcoming beauty line, making us excited to try to replicate the looks for ourselves once the products are in store.

Vivienne Hu is known for combining European luxury and elegance with classic New York street style and Asian cultural aspects. Her collections always strive to provide independent women with the ability to showcase their femininity and individuality in new, extraordinary ways. Her SS20 collection definitely reflected this goal and gave us so much more than we could have hoped for.
