Miley Cyrus Releases ‘Slide Away’ Music Video
After her emotional performance of the hit song at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, Miley Cyrus is giving fans more with the release of the Slide Away music video.
It’s been almost a month since the split between Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth. Although the separation left fans broken-hearted, Miley’s song Slide Away gave insight into why it happened. From what fans have gathered from the lyrics, she and Liam had simply grown apart and become different people. The sentimental song gives listeners a chance to understand the meaning of their relationship.

The music video, released Friday morning, provides even more insight and perhaps analogies to the feelings Miley has over the ended relationship. The video features the singer floating in a pool as well as walking around a house party. The pool, which is cluttered with empty bottles and inflatable floaties, is a contrast to the ocean that she wishes “you” to slide back into. She wants the person to whom the song is directed to slide back into the open and clean ocean while she is left floating in a small cluttered pool.

At the house party, Miley walks around observing the commotion. She does not partake or interact with anyone, it is as if the party is moving around her and she is simply still. In the song, she references her lack of interest in “whiskey and pills,” connecting this to the lack of interest she has in the fast-paced environment of the party.
the music video for slide away is like the aftermath of we can’t stop. the party is over. anyone left is strung out somewhere in the house. miley is like a fly on the wall. she feels out of place bc she’s knows she’s grown past that phase of her life. #slideawayvideo pic.twitter.com/pYwtUzCOMT

Since being in the spotlight since she was very young, the world has watched Miley grow. We’ve seen her through her ups and downs and all of her relationships. The song and music video seems to be her way of telling both Liam and the world that she has grown. Although her party days may be over, that doesn’t mean she is back to who she was when she was 17 years old. Regardless, we love her.
