Sam Smith Has Made an Inspirational Announcement

Smith has gotten even more transparent about how they identify.

The non-binary star has changed pronouns to they/them officially, and let fans know via social media.

They came out as nonbinary earlier this year but decided to keep their pronouns he/him. They have since chosen to change this in a show of self-acceptance. The announcement was met positively by their fans and they stated that they were lucky to have such a great support system.

Today is a good day so here goes. I’ve decided I am changing my pronouns to THEY/THEM ❤ after a lifetime of being at war with my gender I’ve decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out. I’m so excited and privileged to be surrounded by people that support me in this decision but I’ve been very nervous about announcing this because I care too much about what people think but fuck it! I understand there will be many mistakes and mis gendering but all I ask is you please please try. I hope you can see me like I see myself now. Thank you. P.s. I am at no stage just yet to eloquently speak at length about what it means to be non binary but I can’t wait for the day that I am. So for now I just want to be VISIBLE and open. If you have questions and are wondering what this all means I’ll try my best to explain but I have also tagged below the human beings who are fighting the good fight everyday. In the post, the singer admitted to being at war with themselves for a while and having finally decided to embrace themselves.  Smith has led by example when it comes to expressing emotions, and allowing fans to be apart of their journey with self-identification and gender is an amazingly brave decision. The decision is inspirational to many who can relate to the struggle to identify and love themselves. 

Smith has had a very successful career, having won an Oscar for the song “Writing’s On The Wall”, and fans can only expect more excellence from them now that they are fully embracing themselves.
