Hogan McLaughlin Captivated the Audience at NYFW with Clean, Structural Looks

The American designers delivered a very memorable collection on September 9th, 2019 at Pier 59 Studios.

The collection, titled “Solanaceae”, meaning nightshade, a type of plant that was prominently featured throughout the collection, took inspiration from the film Belladonna of Sadness. McLaughlin’s collection was all about female power, specifically wielding it from a connection with nature. The collection featured clean-cut lines and sharp silhouettes, all of which emitted strong female power and independence.

The color palette of the collection consisted of pale rose, marigold, celadon, and obsidian. All of the colors came together beautifully and accentuated the keen tailoring. The varying fabrics of silk and leather were manipulated impeccably to create delicate movements as the models walked the runway.

Some of the looks featured artist Bill Crisafi’s “hallucinatory illustrations” of the nightshade plant, whether it be on the sleeves or on the front of a clothing piece. The illustrations added a touch of delicate femininity to the architectural looks.

Each of the looks was styled with black combat boots that featured Crisafi’s illustrations in white. Each model also sported slicked-back hair, a fresh face, and bold brows.

The runway finale was complemented with Grimes’ song “We Appreciate Power”, which completely tied in the concept of modern female power with the collection. The runway show was orchestrated with the aid of a wonderful team and none other than America’s Next Top Model PR Maven, Kelly Cutrone so it is no surprise that it ran smoothly and showcased the collection in the best light, both literally and metaphorically.

We definitely cannot wait to see what else lies in store from Hogan McLaughlin. To see the complete collection and learn more about Hogan McLaughlin, check out the designer’s website and Instagram.
