Swiss Touch’s Mode Suisse Event Showcased Five up and Coming Designers
The Swiss Consulate and Mode Suisse hosted a non-traditional fashion event in which guests enjoyed music and mingled, all while models showed off the latest collections from Swiss designers. Attendees were able to meet and chat with the designers and examine garments up close. Swiss brands Forbidden Denimeries, Julia Heuer, Vanessa Schindler, Julian Zigerli, and YVY were all present at the event.
DNA: Forbidden Denimeries by Mikael Vilchez presented a new take on denim outfits. The collection was a denim lover’s absolute dream. All the looks were designed to be gender-neutral.
The pieces featured included high-leg-slit jeans, a frayed denim blazer jacket, a sleeveless dress, and a mermaid skirt. Not only were clothing pieces showcased but cool denim hoop earrings and a white denim belt bag were also available for eventgoers to marvel at.
Julia Heuer‘s designs were bold in bright hues and loud prints. Models flaunted pleated dresses that hugged their curves in a beautiful way. The patterns on the dresses were unique and true artwork. Each piece is meant to “retain its original feel and colorful vibrance, while requiring extremely low mainenance”, absolutely perfect for the woman always on the go.
In addition to beautiful dresses, the designer showcased gorgeous platform heels with the same pleating technique as the dresses, giving them a one of a kind, funky feel.
Vanessa Schindler‘s featured looks had structure in an unexpected way. The designer used urethane, a polymer, to construct all the garments and accessories. The sleeves and hem of the dress had an intricate, curvy structure; the sleeves were a reimagining of the bell sleeve as the ends twisted to give a similar appearance to the, now popular, scrunchies while the same twisting technique on the hem gave the appearance of gold teardrops. The look was styled with gold-colored, architectural earrings made of similar materials as the dress and colorful square-toed heels.
The designer also displayed some scrunchies she created with the urethane and earrings that she designed. The earrings gave an intriguing liquid glass appearance that we are still obsessed with.
Julian Zigerli gave us edgy streetwear looks through the combination of design and art. Zigerli showcased varying sporty looks, from casual sweater and shorts to bold, risqué tops encrusted in luxurious Swarovski crystals.
The looks were all paired with white slippers, similar to those from hotels, providing a touch of the sense of humor that the designer is known for.
YVY presented a collection for today’s badass men and women. It ranged from see-through mesh tank tops to leather bandanas and belt accessories. It was all about “the minimalist and rock’n’roll lifestyle”.
YVY elevated even the most common accessories with leather, including a sleek, black leather visor that we didn’t know we wanted until now. It was a collection that oozed confidence and rebellion.
Each of the designers’ collection preview looks left us excited to see their entire collections and to see what they do next.
