Billy Porter has made Emmy history through his phenomenal performance in the hit show Pose. Porter has become the first unapologetically gay African American to ever win Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the Emmys. Many audience members gave Porter a standing ovation and offered praise for his acceptance speech. In Porter’s speech, he gave thanks to his fellow Pose co-stars, Ryan Murphy, his husband, and his manager of 25 years. He delivered a powerful quote from the groundbreaking writer, activist, and playwright, James Baldwin.

Billy also makes history as being the first-ever African America LGBT member to win an Emmy, Grammy, and Tony for his incredible performances on screen. Hopefully soon, Billy will have an “EGOT,” also known as having an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony as an entertainer. If Porter gets an Oscar, he will be enlisted into one of 12 members of EGOT to ever received the four highest awards.
