Jharrel Jerome Receives a Standing Ovation at the Emmys
Jharrel Jerome wins an Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a limited series or movie for his performance in the Netflix limited series, “When They See Us.”
Jharrel Jerome received an Emmy for his emotional and passionate performance in “When They See Us”, based on the Exonerated 5 true story. Directed by Ava DuVernay, the limited series received positive reviews and nine nominations this year at the Emmys. “When They See Us” is based on the 1989 Central park jogger case, when five young teenagers were wrongly accused of rape, and sentenced to prison until appealing their convictions and evidence showed none were involved.

This is Jerome’s first Emmy win and second accolade as an actor on film and television. He also makes history as the second-youngest winner and first Latin actor for outstanding actor in a limited series or movie category.
