The new spinoff from the hit show Black-ish, Mixed-ish, premieres the new theme song “In the Mix” written and performed by Mariah Carey. Mixed-ish revolves around Traci Ellis Ross’s character, Rainbow, and her family in the 80s. Growing up in a black and white world, Rainbow and her two siblings Johan and Santamonica, find a difficult time fitting in as a result of being biracial.

Growing up biracial, Mariah Carey could relate to the same experiences as Rainbow. Growing up mixed in America during a time when the world was black and white, Mariah Carey was very passionate to get involved in the project. Carey is known for debuting songs and writing about being mixed throughout her career, for people to understand the difficulties of feeling like an outsider.
