At the 46th annual BET Award Show, Rick Ross presented the rap legend, Lil Kim, with the most prestigious award of the night. The Brooklyn, New York native has received many accolades in the span of her 25 years in the rap game. She is the first female rapper to have three consecutive #1 singles on the Billboard’s Rap Songs Chart.  She’s been received 6 nominations and won a Grammy in 2002 for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. Aside from that, she has won various MTV and VH1 awards, but the “I Am Hip Hop” award will be her first-ever award from BET. In her success, she constantly recognizes the infamous Notorious B.I.G. for giving her a start in the rap game. During her acceptance speech, she acknowledged him along with fellow artists and family who have helped her in her journey to success.

Lil Kim is easily one of the most influential artists of her time. She embraces sexuality in her music while also being able to stand strong in her feminism without submitting to the heavy male presence of the rap industry.  Not to mention many famous female rappers like Remy Ma, Megan Thee Stallion, and Nicki Minaj all acknowledge Lil Kim’s blueprint as an inspiration to pursue their music.
