Dove Cameron Lights Up the Stage Opposite Renée Fleming in ‘The Light in the Piazza’ at LA Opera
Dove Cameron gave a delightful performance in this beloved love story opening night in the moving and drama-filled Tony Award-winning musical The Light in the Piazza at LA Opera.
The musical follows a mother, Margaret Johnson (Renée Fleming), and her daughter, Clara (Dove Cameron), as they take a trip to the beautiful city of Florence, Italy in the summertime of 1953. While taking in the breathtaking city, Clara meets a mysterious and handsome young man, Fabrizio Naccarelli (Rob Houchen), pursuing his dreams and they instantly fall in love. However, Clara hides a family secret that will test their love.
Cameron carried her own as she starred opposite legend Reneé Fleming, known as one of America’s most outstanding sopranos and we cannot find the lie. In 2013, President Obama awarded Fleming the National Medal of Arts, she’s the winner of four Grammy Awards and has lent her voice for many outstanding events from the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony to the Diamond Jubilee Concert for Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. Fleming’s performance was captivating as you were carried on the journey of a mother protecting her daughter’s heart. Cameron’s voice perfectly portrayed Clara’s character as you felt her innocence and naivety along with her strength to find normalcy in her very protected life living with a disability.
Rob Houchen is a British musical theater star who made his U.S. debut as Fabrizio Naccarelli who captures Clara’s heart.
His voice was magnetic and his stage presence was phenomenal. Houchen currently appears as Marius in Les Misérables: The All-Star Staged Concert in London’s West End. He recently appeared as Fabrizio in The Light in the Piazza at Royal Festival Hall and has also appeared in Titanic at Charing Cross Theatre and sang the title role in Candide in Concert at Cadogan Hall.
Dutch-born actress Celinde Schoenmaker made her LA Opera debut as Franca Naccarelli, the wife of Fabrizio’s older brother who has a few life lessons for Clara in this piece. She gave a stunning performance and no surprise as her resume is lengthy. Her credits include Franca in The Light in the Piazza (Royal Festival Hall), Claire de Loone in On the Town (Royal Albert Hall/BBC), Jenny Lind in Barnum (Menier Chocolate Factory), Christine in The Phantom of the Opera (West End/30th Anniversary Performance), Jenny in Love Story (Netherlands) and Fantine in Les Misérables (West End). Concerts include Disney in Concert (Amsterdam) and Musicals in Concert (Amsterdam).
The Light in the Piazza is going to be available for a short time only, from October 12th to October 20th. Make sure to get your tickets on LA Opera’s website, so that you don’t miss out on the chance to see this amazing love story live.
