Rihanna Talks Saying No to the Super Bowl and Politics in ‘Vogue’ Interview
Rihanna sat down with Vogue to talk about the Super Bowl, Fenty Maison, music, politics, and Donald Trump.
Rihanna stars in another stunning Vogue cover this year, making this her second cover for the magazine just this year. In her latest November cover story, she mentions a future collaboration with Lil Nas X, the difficulties of finding time to record in the studio, Fenty Maison becoming apart of LMVH, and the future of her album, R9.
Rihanna shared her feelings regarding why she turned down the Super Bowl. In the interview, she discusses the principles and actions of the NFL that she doesn’t support or approve of. She also reveals that she declined the halftime performance in order to support Colin Kaepernick; she described that she did not want to be a “sellout” or an “enabler.”
In response to Rihanna’s reasoning to decline the Super Bowl, many celebrities and fans demonstrated their support in her decision. Ava DuVernay, the phenomenal director of Selma and When They See Us, reposted a quote from Rihanna on Twitter.
“I couldn’t dare do that. For what? Who gains? Not my people. I just couldn’t be a sellout. An enabler. There’s things within that organization I don’t agree with and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.” – On Kaepernick + Super Bowl https://t.co/SR9gIcZHkv

Rihanna’s interview with Vogue also revealed her thoughts on politics, and her opinion on Trump’s view of immigration and the devastating mass shootings in America. She stated, “People are being murdered by war weapons that they legally purchase. This is not normal.” Rihanna also commented about Trump’s tweet about the El Paso Shooting and stating it’s a mental health problem. In the interview, she also states, “The fact that it’s classified as something different because of the color of their skin, it’s a slap in the face. It’s completely racist. Put an Arab man with the same weapon in that same Walmart and there is no way Trump would sit there and address it publicly as a mental health problem.”
She also discussed immigration and her famous “IMMIGRANT” t-shirt design for Fenty that she posted on Instagram, targeting and tagging Donald Trump.
Rihanna has clearly portrayed her feelings toward Trump as a result of his actions, ideas, views, and his statements on topics. “The most mentally ill human being in America right now seems to be the president,” claims Rihanna.
Rihanna’s interview with Vogue represented more than just fashion and music, but also her incredible political activism.
