The Premiere of ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ on Disney+

ABC, Disney Channel, and Freeform will present the first episode of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series for one night only.

The premiere will air on Friday, November 8th, in advance of the Disney+ debut which is set to launch Tuesday, November. 12th. Produced by Tim Federle, the series is marked by originality for the worldwide pop-culture sensation High School Musical.

Starring a diverse and talented cast, the scripted Disney+ series introduces 10 main characters: Nini, Ricky, Gina, E.J., Ashlyn, Kourtney, Carlos, Big Red, Miss Jenn, and Mr. Mazzara – a group of drama students and faculty members at East High, similar to how the original movie was filmed.

Ricky, played by Joshua Bassett, is a charismatic teen auditioning for the musical so he can win back the heart of ex-girlfriend Nini, played by Olivia Rodrigo. Miss Jenn, played by Kate Reinders, is East High’s supremely spirited drama teacher. Gina, played by Sofia Wylie, is a transfer student. E.J. is played by Matt Cornet, and Kourtney is played by Dara Reneé. Ashlyn is played by Julia Lester as E.J.’s cousin and an aspiring songwriter. Carlos played by Frankie A. Rodriguez and is the student choreographer. Big Red will be played by Larry Saperstein as Ricky’s best friend while Mr. Mazzara, played by Mark St. Cyr, is East High’s by-the-book S.T.E.M. teacher.

Filmed in Salt Lake City, Utah, East High School is the heart of both the setting and film location for the High School Musical and the new series. Debuting fully on Tuesday, November. 12, Disney+ will be the dedicated home streaming for movies and shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and more. With this exciting new platform, the world has high expectations for what the service will bring to the table.
