Macy’s Will Stop Selling Fur in 2020

Macy’s Inc.

The attitude towards real fur in fashion has changed, and Macy’s is taking notice.

Macy’s announced they would be fur-free by the end of the fiscal year 2020. In a press release they stated, “We remain committed to providing great fashion and value to our customers, and we will continue to offer high-quality and fashionable faux fur alternatives.”

They have also entered a partnership with the Humane Society of America as they work to become completely fur-free. Macy’s is one of the United State’s premier retailers and operates in over 43 states; they’ve been a staple of American shopping for decades. This move towards a more environmentally friendly fashion choice is one that many protested for in the past. Their partnership with the Humane Society is something to celebrate as well. The Humane Society, along with its affiliates, is the nation’s largest provider of hands-on services for animals, caring for more than 100,000 animals each year. They prevent cruelty to millions more through their advocacy campaigns.

We have to applaud Macy’s for finally focusing on eradicating fur from their stores. Hopefully, other stores that have not made the switch will follow their lead.
