Selena Gomez appeared on New Music Daily with Zane Lowe on Apple Music Beats1 and discussed deeper context on her two newest songs, her friendship with Taylor Swift, and her desire to be Hayley Williams when she was younger.

With Gomez’s new hit song “Lose You To Love Me” gaining an enormous amount of attention, it’s easy to predict her fans had a few questions about the meaning of the song. The song comes from her being in a good place right now.

“That’s my home. Making food my Nana’s in town so she’s making me chicken and dumplings and we’re watching Lifetime movies, and we’re outside,” Gomez says.

Gomez went on to discuss she is happy where she is in her life. Taking time for herself and enjoying it with friends, family, and her new dog who has changed her life. Gomez mentions how she has dedicated much time to her mental health. She speaks about how she has been going to therapy for many years and recollecting her thoughts and emotions. Being in the entertainment industry as long as Gomez has, she has learned how to navigate through the mental tear of social media and ignore the negative remarks.

Lowe plays Gomez a short clip of close friend Taylor Swift, and Gomez says that “her music is the best thing she has ever done,” and Gomez becomes emotional from the impact of their friendship. Gomez states, “She was frustrated when I was frustrated. She was sad when I was sad.”
