Adventure Pictures

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute announced its co-chairs and theme for the 2020 Gala leaving us counting down the days until the iconic fashion event.

The 2019 Met Gala theme and red carpet, “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” brought in looks that we will never forget. The exhibit was inspired by Susan Sontag’s definition of camp, “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration,” from her historic 1964 essay. The memorable event was hosted by Lady Gaga, Alessandro Michele, Serena Williams, and Harry Styles.

The 2020 Met Gala will be a historic event marking the 150th Anniversary of the costume exhibition, made possible by Louis Vuitton. With that being said, the theme could not be more fitting. On November 7th, the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced the 2020 theme will be “About Time: Fashion and Duration.” Inspiration for the exhibition comes from the 1992 Sally Potter film, Orlando, which came from the Virginia Woolf novel which travels through centuries of British history.

The 150th Anniversary will be hosted by Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, and Lin Manuel Miranda.

20th Century Fox

Meryl Streep has had a decorated career in the entertainment industry often referred to as “the actress of her generation.” Her role in The Devil Wears Prada as Miranda Priestly was inspired by Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintours. Since 1988, Wintours has reigned over the Vogue kingdom so it is only fitting that Streep, who played her in the fashion inspired film, is named one of the co-chairs of the gala.

Summit Entertainment

Emma Stone, Academy and Golden Globe winner, is best known for her role as Mia in La La Land. Stone dropped out of high school to pursue her acting career and thank god. The beauty is set to star as Cruelle de Vil, channelling her inner diva in 2021 film, Cruella. Her dynamic personality makes her perfect for this role and even more so to serve as one of the co-chairs for the 2020 Met Gala.

HBO

Lin Manuel Miranda and his witty personality make the best addition to the 2020 Met Gala Co-Chair trio. Broadway star, Lin Manuel Miranda, is predominately recognized for his role as Alexander Hamilton and creation of the broadway musical, Hamilton. The three time Grammy and Tony Award winner is also known for the 2008 production of In the Heights and role in HBO series His Dark Materials.

The trio will be joined by Louis Vuitton artistic director, Nicolas Ghesquière, and Anna Wintour. Although months away, the biggest names in fashion are already working on designs for the event that is sure to go down in history. Join in on the countdown as we wait for the much anticipated exhibition and event in May of 2020.
