We Can’t Wait for ‘Cats,’ the Feline Phenomenon, to Hit Theaters
Inspired by the iconic Broadway musical, the film version of Cats is set to premiere in theaters Dec. 20.
Just like the musical, the film adaptation is based on the same plot that follows “Jellicle” cats as they decide which one of them is chosen to ascend to the Heaviside Layer, their version of heaven, and be reborn. This unexpected adaptation is directed by Tom Hooper, the mastermind behind the film version of Les Misérables.
Cats will feature the “Jellicles” singing and dancing on an enlarged film set that will mimic a cat’s perspective.
The feline phenomenon stars some of Hollywood’s favorites, many of which musicians and singers: Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Rebel Wilson, Jason Derulo, and many more. With the presence of many musical faces, fans are anticipating beautiful songs and performances as well as a corresponding film soundtrack.
Lucky for us, Taylor Swift and Andrew Lloyd Webber have released that they have been collaborating on the creation of a new track for the film. “Memory,” “The Naming of Cats,” and “The Rum Tum Tugger” are some of songs from the Broadway musical expected to be included but with the presence of Swift, Hudson, Wilson, and Derulo; we are hoping for some more 2019 film originals. Check out an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip of the Swift original below.
