The official trailer for the movie adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway musical In the Heights debuted, starring Anthony Ramos, Dascha Polanco, and more.
Lin-Manuel Miranda created the Broadway musical, In the Heights, in 1999 after drafting and creating music from the play, adapting the idea from Quiara Alegria Hudes’ book. Miranda wrote original music and lyrics for the production, and with the success of his concept, debuted on the Broadway stage in 2008. Since 2008, the production has won many awards and is enjoyed for its diversity and ability to mix rap and Hispanic influences in the music.
With the success of In the Heights and appreciation from fans, Miranda, Hudes, and director Jon M. Chu have adapted the musical into a screenplay, set to release next summer. The film adaptation for In the Heights is set in New York’s Washington Heights, with Anthony Ramos playing the main protagonist, “Usnavi de la Vega.” The film also stars Corey Hawkins, Daphne Rubin- Vega, and Marc Anthony.
In the movie trailer, there are fantastic dance and music numbers, love, the importance of family, and topics that are affecting the world today like gentrification, the Dreamers Act, and immigration.
The release of the trailer has many fans and viewers excited for the adaptation and for Ramos to star as the main character, Miranda, previously played on Broadway.
