Camille Schrier of Virginia wins Miss America 2020 after performing the show’s first-ever science demonstration during the talent portion.

Camille Schrier earned the title of Miss America on December 19th. She stole the show with her science experiment during the talent portion, which is something that has never been done before. Her experiment was a chemical reaction that catalyzes the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into water and gaseous oxygen.

She received much praise from the judges – Kelly Rowland, Queer Eye‘s Karamo Brown, and Superstore actress, Lauren Ash. Prior to the win, Schrier thanked the pageant for taking the focus off of women’s bodies and letting them display their knowledge, personality, and mission.

As a brand, Miss America has been trying to re-brand themselves. This will be the second year they have gotten rid of the swimsuit and evening gown portion of the competition in order to focus less on the contestants bodies. They have even been calling the re-brand Miss America 2.0.

Schrier’s mission is to promote drug safety and abuse prevention. With the win and the crown, she earned over $300,000 in scholarships, and one year of representing the organization and her mission.

Camille Schrier seems to be paving the way for future beauty pageant queens in order to showcase their intelligence and personality, rather than worrying only about their looks.
