Abel Makkonen Tesfaye (professionally known as The Weeknd) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer.

Sporting a red suit, black gloves, and his artificial bloody nose as a promotional tactic, The Weeknd debuts his new single “Scared to Live” on Saturday Night Live from his upcoming album After Hours. Earlier in the show, The Weeknd also performed “Blinding Lights” which is also from the same album.

After taking a one-year break from music, The Weeknd announced his upcoming studio album on social media last month. After Hours will be the singer’s fourth album, and it is set to release next Friday, March 20.

The Weeknd shares with CR Fashion Book that he feels confident with where he is taking his new record. The album will be a follow-up to the singer’s 2018’s My Dear Melancholy and his first studio album Starboy (2016). “It was the first song I wrote after that album, so it felt fitting for me to put it out,” he says. “I play a character in the video who becomes compromised and then overcompensates with all the sins that Vegas provides. It’s a great introduction to the next chapter of my life.” “There’s also a very committed vision and character being portrayed and I get to explore a different side of me that my fans have never seen,” he continues.
