Peep How Beyoncé and Tina Knowles-Lawson Provided Free COVID-19 Testing In Houston
This past Mother’s Day weekend, Beyoncé and Tina Knowles-Lawson launched their #IDIDMYPART campaign in their hometown of Houston, Texas.
Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD charity campaign teamed up with her mother, Tina, to encourage Houston residents to get tested for the coronavirus in minority communities as a way to slow the spread of the virus.
The initiative was in conjunction with the United Memorial Medical Center in Houston who administered the free testing. During an interview with CBS News, Tina talked about the lack of testing, and how it has not been implemented within minority groups in Houston and wanted to bring awareness to this to encourage residents to do their part.
Over the course of two days, the initiative tested 1, 000 Houston residents. The free testing site was in a drive-through setting, so it allowed participants to remain in their vehicles while being tested and be able to get the resources needed while practicing social distancing.
Beyoncé took to Instagram with joy as she was able to assist residents of her hometown to get tested and help fulfill her mother’s philanthropy vision. “Seeing my hometown do their part and get tested today brought me so much joy. H-Town, I love y’all”. “Special thanks to my mother, Tina, for this incredible vision,” she continued.
#IDIDMYPART also provided free testing kits, face masks, personal protective equipment, gloves, essential vitamins, household supplies, grocery gift cards, food vouchers, and free meals to the Houston participants. Tina and Beyoncé hope the #IDIDMYPART initiative will become a movement for celebrities to join and assist in coronavirus relief efforts. So far, Tyler Perry has been confirmed that he will do the same in his hometown of Atlanta.
