We Don’t Have to Mullet Over, Miley Cyrus’ New Haircut Is Iconic
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree; Miley Cyrus has carried on her father Billy Ray Cyrus’ mullet legacy: the torch has been passed and it is burning bright…we can’t look away.
Singer-songwriter Billy Ray Cyrus released “I Want My Mullet Back” in 2006 and finally, fourteen years later, he can sleep soundly knowing that his daughter has resurrected this fad. Perhaps, after nearly three decades, his “Achy Breaky Heart” can finally begin to heal.
You know what they say, “business in the front, party in the back,” and the “Party in the U.S.A” star has decidedly delivered with this daring ‘do. This modern mullet was a labor of love, a well-coordinated group effort between three key figures. Miley, her celebrity hairstylist Sally Hershberger (who offered virtual guidance via FaceTime), and mother Tish Cyrus combined their creative juices to create a crown mullet.
The haircut was inspired by Miley’s rekindled passion for punk and her current state of isolation; after all, quarantine is the ideal time to be spontaneous and play hairdresser. An undeniable perk of social distancing is that if a bold new haircut backfires, no one will witness the aftermath.
Fortunately for Miley, her risk paid off, as her modern mullet dwarfs all of its predecessors; Netflix Star and former zoo operator Joe Exotic’s mullet is merely the less attractive twin.
I am a plucky Sophomore at Wesleyan University with a passion for writing, fashion, running, and extremely strong coffee—so strong that it would make a 6’5’’ WWE wrestler weep. I am a small person with a big personality, only intensified by the coffee, that seeps into both my bold street and writing style. I am currently based in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area and am excited to work for such an empowering, female-focused publication. During this trying time in history it is more important than ever for women to continue lifting each other up and spreading positive energy!
