Grab Your Cleats and Get Ready for Netflix’s Feature Film on the United States Women’s Soccer Team

Sports fans, rejoice. The Girls of Summer: The US Women’s Soccer Team and How It Changed the World is set to be adapted into a feature film.

Netflix has recently received the rights to the book The Girls of Summer: The US Women’s Soccer Team and How It Changed the World by Jeré Longman. The story encompasses the story of the 1999 US Women’s Soccer Team and their journey to World Cup victory that year.

Check out what the members of the 1999 US Women’s Soccer Team are up to today in the video below.

The movie will detail the exploits of the famous team, which consisted of Mia Hamm, Briana Scurry, Kristine Lilly, and July Foudy. Brandi Chastain is credited with leading her team to World Cup victory with a winning penalty kick during their game against China. Until that point, both teams were tied 0-0; That kick has truly gone down in history.

 

Many current US women’s soccer team players, such as Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe have referenced to the famous 1999 victory as a source of great inspiration. So be sure to watch out for a release date to relive one of the greatest moments in sports history.
