Vibe Out With Bright Eyes’ New Track, ‘One And Done’
Bright Eyes’ upcoming album is arguably the most anticipated record of 2020.
Following the 2011 release of The People’s Key (and Bright Eyes’ subsequent hiatus), fans have yearned for more music from the groundbreaking indie band. Bright Eyes’ legacy precedes them; their elusive and eclectic sound is unparalleled by contemporary indie bands, as are lead singer Conor Oberst’s pertinent and poetic lyrics. From the late 90s to 2011, the trailblazing band released six studio albums as well as an array of collections, collaborations, EPs, and live CDs. During this time, Bright Eyes’ earnest and expressive discography earned Oberst a reputation as the “Bob Dylan” of the Millennial generation. Though Oberst himself denies the merit of this title, his influence on the indie-folk scene has been profound. Many celebrated artists such as Phoebe Bridgers and First Aid Kit site Oberst’s work with Bright Eyes as one of the chief influences on their careers.
Although Oberst has released several first-rate solo albums and collaborations since 2011, fans have spent the past 9 years wishing that Oberst would team up with fellow Bright Eyes members Mike Mogis and Nate Walcott once more.
This past March, that wish was granted when the band released a new song and announced a 2020 album and world tour. Although the album’s official title has yet to be released, the band has dropped three new tracks: “Persona Non Grata”, “Forced Convalescence”, and the brand new “One and Done”. While all of the songs’ sounds have varied greatly, they are united by a richness and sincerity that only Bright Eyes can deliver.
