Lena Dunham and Other Stars Will Honor Young Artists at National Award Ceremony
For the first time, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards will be held completely online, with several stars and best-selling authors attending to kick off the celebration.
Usually held at the esteemed Carnegie Hall, the award ceremony was forced to go virtual to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols. Despite the unfortunate cancelation of the live event, influential authors and artists Suzanne Collins (author of The Hunger Games), Chris Colfer (known for starring in Glee), Dav Pilkey (author of Captain Underpants), and others will still join the event to support and appreciate young people’s art.
Breaking news: Jennifer Garner, @lenadunham and @chriscolfer will headline the 2020 Virtual National Ceremony, along with other special guests! Tune in on June 4, 6:00 pm ET to watch. https://t.co/8IqBkxSc8f

The Scholastic Art awards have a prestigious history. Some past recipients include Steven King, Joyce Carol Coates, Andy Warhol, and John Updike. By scheduling a virtual ceremony, Scholastic ensured that gold and silver key recipients could still experience the excitement and pride of this impressive accomplishment.
Lena Dunham, another former recipient and creator/writer of the HBO Series Girls, tweeted about how much this award means to her personally.
It’s been well over 20 years since I won a Scholastic silver key, and it’s still the best prize I ever received. Scholastic is an amazing way to remind young people that their art matters. It’s a huge reason why I kept writing.https://t.co/ZvqQ93w8GR
