Former POTUS Barack Obama is promoting the real change America needs.

As Americans rally for change of racial equality, Barack Obama has sent a hopeful message and is inviting the country to be part of the turning point that can end racial injustice. Obama writes about not just raising awareness and protesting, but how voting can impact communities as well. Elected officials such as district and state attorneys and mayors are elected positions in government that have a big significance on the criminal justice system. However, voting for this level of government is remarkably low. With the aforementioned elected positions requiring hundreds to a few thousand votes, Obama promotes a balance of protest and politics for those who can act on civil rights reform.

In his hopeful message, Obama encourages readers to be the change we want to see. “If we want our criminal justice system, and American society at large, to operate on a higher ethical code, then we have to model that code ourselves,” Obama writes on his medium platform
