Ben and Jerry’s has published a powerful statement stating their views on the George Floyd murder and racism in America.

The famous Vermont originated ice cream brand has been known to fight for peace since the start of the company. They are no strangers to the Black Lives Matter movement having publically announced their support of the cause four years ago. But with yet another death of an innocent black citizen, the company spoke out in a big way.

The letter on their website that they linked in their social media bios shares their anger, disgust, and heartbreak over the loss of Geroge Floyd. They go on to address the problem at hand saying “What happened to George Floyd was not the result of a bad apple; it was the predictable consequence of a racist and prejudiced system and culture that has treated Black bodies as the enemy from the beginning”. Dating back to Jamestown 1619 the company traces racial injustice to the origin of America when the “toxic seeds” were planted. They go on to state their plan to enact change with a four-step call to action that addresses President Trump, Congress, and the H.R. 40 legislation, a national task force aimed to end racial violence and The Department of Justice of “reinvigorate” their Civil Rights Division.

Ben & Jerry’s has been speaking out and promoting voting on their social media consistently in addition to their statement. They also released a flavor called “Justice ReMix’d” back in September that raises money and awareness for police brutality and the corruption of the justice system. The company best known for its delicious ice cream is using its power and platform to stand with the Black Lives Matter Movement in hopes to end racial violence in America and they urge you to join them.
