Watch Katy Perry Use Her Platform to Fight Systemic Racism

CBS/Phil McCarten

Katy Perry has recently joined the fight against racial injustice and police brutality directed at Black Americans in the United States.

With the murder of George Floyd, many of us were direct witnesses of him being stripped of his civil rights and fundamental dignity. Perry has shared Floyd’s petition campaign and links to different organizations, which bail out protesters, on both her Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Perry, who has almost 100 million supporters on Instagram and 108.5 million on Twitter, has positively contributed to the Black Lives Matter campaign. She used her massive following to make a change in a society in which it has been long overdue.

Throughout her musical career, Perry had multiple hits, which have crossed the 1 billion view mark on YouTube. A lot of Generation Z individuals have grown up to Perry’s music. Now we are thrilled because not only is she expecting her first child, but she continues to fight for others and use her voice and platform to contribute to establishing justice.

If you choose to protest, please stay safe and do not forget to wear a mask because we are still in the middle of a COVID-19 pandemic. Like Katy Perry, continue spreading the word even if you are unable to attend the protests or donate to organizations like National Bail Out, Know Your Rights Camp, or Black Lives Matter Global Network.
