MTV Is Considering Holding the VMAs Live
MTV is exploring ways to host its annual VMAs live at Barclays Center in August.
Every year MTV hosts the Video Music Awards where it honors artists for their accomplishments and also features live performances. The company hopes that this year will be no different. With many other events being canceled due to the pandemic, it was assumed that the VMAs would be, too. However, that might not be the case. As things are starting to reopen, MTV is planning to host the show in Brooklyn this August.
“We’re exploring with government officials, the medical community and key stakeholders on how to safely hold the 2020 VMAs at Barclays Center on August 30th,” an MTV spokesperson said in a statement to Variety. “The health of everyone involved is our number one priority. Additionally, we are working on several contingency plans to bring music’s biggest night to audiences everywhere.”
Ideally, the show would be hosted live from Barclays Center but in case that isn’t possible, the company is also exploring the idea of an audience free show with virtual performances. According to Variety, MTV even sent out save-the-date notices to top agents and talent reps earlier in the week. So stay hopeful and mark your calendars.
We’re looking forward to more iconic performances like this one:
