Nike Commits to Donating $40 Million to the Black Community
Nike’s CEO John Donahoe announced today, June 5, the brand will support the Black community by donating $40 million. According to Nike’s press site, over the next four years, Nike, Jordan, and Converse will support “organizations that put social justice, education and addressing racial inequality in America at the center of their work.”
After they posted a powerful advertisement on their social media, Nike is now committed to doing more for the Black community.
John Donahoe said, “Systemic racism and the events that have unfolded across America over the past few weeks serve as an urgent reminder of the continued change needed in our society. We know Black Lives Matter. We must educate ourselves more deeply on the issues faced by Black communities and understand the enormous suffering and senseless tragedy racial bigotry creates.” The brand has always taken strong positions on societal issues, and is once again showing their support and placing themselves as leaders.

Nike is moving in the right direction, but it is also crucial that they consider adding more diversity to their staff by hiring people from various backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, and races.
