Leading Athleisure Brands Lululemon and Alo Support Black Lives Matter

Some athleisure brands have been acting ethically and supporting BLM.

In this period of poisonous politics and blatant bigotry, a time in history where the massacre of innocent Black Americans is a routine news headline, consumers are holding brands more accountable and demanding that they show support for BLM. In response, Lululemon and Alo have stepped up and reached for their wallets.

In addition to contributing to Black Lives Matter, NAACP, and Reclaim the Block, Lululemon has donated $100,000 to the Minnesota Freedom Fund. Similarly, Alo has donated proceeds to Campaign Zero and Black Visions Collective

We haven’t always got it right. Over the years it made us question if we had a right to speak up. And we are privileged to have a voice and a platform. So… Know we are not indifferent. Far from it. We are passionate about every single human being valued. For this to happen we need to take action. We are making a $100,000 donation to the Minnesota Freedom Fund. And we know that to be a stand against inequity and injustice of any kind, we all need to do so much more. You have our commitment we will. Update: Due to an overwhelming outpour of financial support for the Minnesota Freedom Fund, we have been asked to channel our resources into other foundations standing for change. We contributed a total of $250K to local Minneapolis organizations Rebuild Lake Street and Friends of Hennepin County Library (East Lake Library), as well as national organizations NAACP, Black Lives Matter and Reclaim the Block.

Alo Yoga has also been using Instagram to empower black voices and support to the movement.

They have utilized their Instagram stories to offer resources, embolden black voices, and highlight local leaders and leading Black activists.

Actions speak louder than words and these popular unisex yogi clothiers have put their money where their mouth is and have proven, via generous donations to BLM, that they are not posers; they espouse yogis of all races. Unlike rival brands that “stand in solidarity,” yet fail to back up empty statements, these leading athleisure brands are fully cognizant of the dire need to act and be a catalyst in this movement for racial equality.

Both Lululemon and Alo have earned their status as allies. Be sure to consider their ethical actions and active role in BLM when shopping for a new pair of leggings.
