Pull Up or Shut Up: Honest Beauty and Jessica Alba Recognize the Need for Change

Honest Beauty took to Instagram this past Sunday, June 7, to go transparent in the wake of the Pull Up or Shut Up campaign and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Clean cosmetics line, Honest Beauty, vows to be part of the solution for racial equality both in and out of the beauty industry as they release their statistical breakdown of the people on their staff.

While only 10 percent of their overall team is Black, 51 percent of their new hires over the last year identify as people of color.

Honest Beauty is holding themselves accountable for their hiring choices and team breakdown by maintaining transparency with their consumers, but what people want to see from them is action, which is why the brand also listed ways that they are going to be part of the change and “stand in solidarity” with the black community.

Some of the things that the sustainable beauty brand has committed to do are listening to their employees and their consumers, holding appropriate internal training sessions, reviewing their inclusion policies, and “donating to organizations that aim to end racial inequality.”

Jessica Alba, the founder of The Honest Company and Honest Beauty, has also been bringing attention to many Black-owned businesses on her own Instagram page.

Both Jessica’s Instagram shout-outs and Honest Beauty’s Black Lives Matter support have been praised by fans and followers for taking their words to their Instagram feed and not just a disappearing post on their story, seeming to make their words last longer and have a greater impact.
