ShareTheMicNow Campaign Amplifies Black Female Voices

ABC/Matt Petit

Female celebs are sharing their social media platforms on Wednesday, June 10th to help magnify the voices of Black women.

The #ShareTheMicNow campaign will see a coalition of Black female influencers, activists, and entrepreneurs take over the Instagram handles of white performers, fashion designers, and athletes.

The campaign was created by a team of Black female editors, led by Endeavor Chief Marketing Officer Bozoma Saint John. According to the campaign page, the aim is to “magnify Black women and the important work that they’re doing in order to catalyze the change that will only come when we truly hear each other’s voices.”

With nearly 50 partnerships announced so far, it’s sure to offer powerful insights into the thoughts of Black women who might otherwise go unheard. Among those participating are Opal Tometi taking over Ashley Graham’s account, Tarana Burke taking over Glennon Doyle’s account, and Kahlana Barfield Brown taking over Julia Roberts’s account. You can check out the full list of amazing women below.

When the world listens to women, it listens to white women. For far too long, Black women’s voices have gone unheard, even though they’ve been using their voices loudly for centuries to enact change. Today, more than ever, it is NECESSARY that we create a unifying action to center Black women’s lives, stories, and calls to action. We need to listen to Black women. This is why we created #ShareTheMicNow. Tomorrow, Black women will speak from the Instagram accounts of white women. The intention of this campaign is to magnify Black women and the important work that they’re doing in order to catalyze the change that will only come when we truly hear each other’s voices.

But the campaign doesn’t end there  Saint John is encouraging all women to continue sharing the mic and keep the momentum going by swapping accounts with their own friends and loved ones.

#ShareTheMicNow promotes an invaluable message that’s even more relevant following the recent, tragic deaths of Black civilians. It’s up to all of us to listen up on June 10th and help all Black voices be heard!
